Why Lessons?
In the modern landscape of the internet, there are many free resources for learning just about anything! With access to free websites and videos dedicated to teaching students how to play guitar, you may be wondering why paying for lessons (either online or in person) can still make a lot of sense.
The answer lies in the fact that learning is a fluid process that can have many stages. There may be long periods of time where a student chooses to self instruct. But there may also be times where a student becomes frustrated at a lack of progress and at their own inability to guide themselves past plateaus in their learning. How Do I Choose An Instructor?
Not every guitar teacher is right for every student! Both learning styles and teaching styles can vary based on experience, education, and personality. This fact can make it difficult to know how long to stay with one teacher, since learning any instrument takes dedicated time and practice to see results.
That’s why it’s important to have an open line of communication with your instructor regarding your long term goals and to work together to develop your Student Plan in a way that makes you feel confident you are always working towards success!
How Long Will It Take To Learn (Song X, Technique Y, Etc)
One of the most common questions students ask is also the toughest to answer! Every individual learns different topics at different paces. This is true even within the subject of guitar instruction! Technique, rhythm, lead, music theory, and many more subjects can present unique challenges. Some students may excel at certain subjects and struggle with others.
This is why it is important to always keep in mind one’s Student Plan so that progress may be easily tracked.
Are Online Lessons Right For Me?
If you are a self starter, don’t require external motivation to practice, and have a solid fundamental understanding of the fretboard, online lessons may be for you!
Online lessons are also a good consideration for those looking to spend a bit less. Because of the limitations of online instruction, it’s only fair to offer them at a slight discount.
Lastly, anyone suffering from a medical condition that makes COVID-19 an ongoing concern will find internet instruction to be a viable and safe alternative to meeting in person!
